According to some surveys, you might think no-one ever turns up for work! In reality, average sickness absence rates are 6-8 days per person (private sector) and 10-12 days (public sector). However, just one person either constantly taking a "sickie" or on long-term sickness absence can be incredibly time-consuming and complex to manage.
Also the sensitivity of absence issues and fear of confrontation make this a management skill often neglected. This interactive and practical course uses examples of real life workplace situations to build confidence and help managers deal with and reduce sickness absence issues.
Core skills covered include:
- Identifying patterns of absence and when this becomes a problem
- Tackling suspicious or regular short-term absence
- Conducting effective return to work interviews - supportive or challenging?
- Dealing with long-term absenteeism - the use of medical reports/assessments
- Managing with the disciplinary/dismissal process - attendance warnings and ill-health dismissals
