Maternity checklist
Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:25

top-tipsInstead of our usual Top Tips, this week we’ve decided to provide you with a maternity checklist to help you tick off those all important things to remember when managing pregnant employees…

  1. Has your employee notified you of her pregnancy, the expected week of childbirth (EWC) and the date she plans to start her maternity leave? This should be before the end of the 15th week ahead of the EWC.
  2. Remember to complete a health and safety risk assessment for the employee, and don’t forget to review it as appropriate.
  3. Confirm in writing the expected date of return from maternity leave within 28 days of receiving her notification!
  4. Is the employee eligible to claim Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)? Ensure she provides you with a MAT B1 form, she will need to notify you of when she would like her SMP to begin.
  5. She may like to take her annual leave entitlement after her maternity leave, so consider having this informal discussion with her so you are prepared to cover.
  6. Contact… you may like to consider discussing with your employee what contact you both would like during the leave. Don’t forget that she will be able to work 10 keeping in touch (KIT) days without bringing her maternity leave to an end.

If you need support in managing maternity in your workplace, please do not hesitate to give us a call to find out how we can help you!
