Regardless of the outcome of the general election this Thursday, it is clear that the focus across the parties is on reducing cost and red tape regarding employment issues. A month on from the introduction of fit notes, we thought we would continue this theme by taking a look at managing and reducing the cost of absence in organisations.

Last Easter it was speculation, this year on 6th April 2010 Additional Paternity Leave (APL) and pay is becoming a reality.The new rules apply to parents of children born or adopted on or after 3rd April 2011. But don’t be fooled into thinking that this is still some time off, as by our calculations, employers may be getting enquiries from soon-to-be parents as early as July this year.
