LIFO or Last In First Out, is a traditional selection method that has often been applied as a means of selecting employees for redundancy; however, following the introduction of The Equality of Employment (Age) Regulations in October 2006, it would be unwise to continue to use this as it is likely to be seen as discriminatory on the grounds of age. Even though staff have often seen LIFO as a fair criterion, you can be sure that the tribunals won't, so we would advise not to use it again!
