"I'm being bullied" is almost as common an expression in today's workplace as "I'm stressed". It's hard to define and equally difficult to know when someone is serious rather than just being supersensitive or having a bad day. Bullying is therefore quite often an awkward issue to manage. Frequent issues arise with Directors and senior managers being accused of bullying however, those individuals claim that unless they are a little bullish in their approach to work, their companies would not be making any profit! If bullying at work is severe an employee may be able to claim financial compensation under the Health and Safety at Work Act. At other times we see bullying claims being linked into allegations of victimisation in claims taken under sex or race discrimination legislation.
