Annualised Hours Contract |

If working hours don't seem to fit a nice and easy weekly pattern, some businesses opt for annualised hours. In these cases, the contract shows the hours to be worked over the entire working year rather than hours per week. For example, a contract might state working hours are 1,950 per year, typically worked over 5 days 8.00 am - 6.30 pm summertime (6 months) and over 3 days 8.00 am - 6.00 pm wintertime (6 months). Annualised hours can be applied to all workers, however, in practice it is most often applied to shift workers. Business benefits include reducing overtime during peak periods and greater employee flexibility. Administration time though should not be underestimated.
