Whilst at school Helen’s enthusiasm and interest lay with languages and different cultures resulting in her studying French and Spanish at A level and travelling frequently abroad. After school, Helen then spent a year living in Germany in order to add German to her language ‘repertoire’ and followed this with an application to the University of St Andrews to study Arabic.
Two years into her degree course Helen, impatient to do more travelling and learn more about the Arab and Islamic culture, gained a place to study for one academic year at the Women’s University in Qatar. On arriving she discovered that she was the first non Arab and first non Muslim ever to have studied at the University and during her year in Qatar Helen had to agree to live and behave as all other Muslim women in that country – and this in itself, proved to be a fantastic opportunity to learn a culture from the ‘inside’.
Two years later, after leaving St Andrews University with an MA in Arabic Studies, Helen immediately launched into a career in Human Resources where she has remained ever since! After working with two (very different) blue chip organisations – one in chemicals and one in retail, 5 years into her working life, she then set up her first HR consultancy ‘Quintox’ in the mid 90’s. At that time her first two children were just 1 and 2 years of age and a third child was born 2 years later.
Having steadily progressed from being on her own and working from home, selling her original consultancy in 2001 and subsequently setting up her second in 2002, Helen is now CEO of Jaluch Ltd, a fast growing and forward thinking HR consultancy which has offices in London, Reading and Ringwood (Hampshire), with more planned across the UK for the coming years as well as expansion into the Middle East.
Jaluch supports hundreds of organisations across the UK with both HR and training and development solutions and has a client base that covers all sectors and that range in size from tiny business start ups to those with many thousands of staff. The emphasis of the business is on providing clients with practical and commercially focussed support with HR issues and providing training and development on a wide range of topics.
Alongside business development activities at Jaluch, Helen is also a regular presenter at seminars and has written a number of pocketbooks on topics such as managing absence, poor performance and redundancy. She also thoroughly enjoys working with young people and supports local schools by giving children opportunities to experience interviews and learn about business. Always with some project on the go in the local community, Helen’s current passion is supporting individuals who want to achieve a level of self sufficiency by setting up in business on their own.
 In August 2011 Helen was thrilled to be appointed as one of just 50 Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors in the UK. As a result of this appointment Helen is now available as a speaker to any business group or educational establishment that is interested in raising awareness of the opportunities available to women wanting to set up on their own in business.
